Welcome to Becomning Closer!

Ephesians is a letter written to old friends.  Paul established this church.  In this letter he lays out many of the more controversial teachings of the church, including such themes as

  • What we must do for the sake of the unity of the church
  • The art of reconciliation
  • Submission

The letter concludes with the famous passage on the whole armor of God.  Here is, as from old, "the Queen of the Epistles."

Ephesians 1:1-14 Baroque Music -  How grace, peace and blessing are woven together like a baroque concerto.
Ephesians 1:15-23 Intercession -  Paul gives us an example of interceding in prayer for others.
Ephesians 2:1-10 Past, Present and Future -  Our past as sinners, our present as forgiven, our future as risen.
Ephesians  2:11-22 Reconciliation - The transition from spiritual alien to child of God.
Ephesians 3 High Notes -  The high notes of the glory of God, expressed in his servants, the church.
Ephesians 4:1-6 Chains of Unity -  The unity of the church, nobly expressed.
Ephesians 4:7-16 Unity in Action -  How the leaders of the church are to promote the unity of the church.
Ephesians 4:17-32 Children of Light -  The children of light; how light displaces darkness in our lives
Ephesians 5:1-14 Imitation of God -  How the imitation of God is the principle of Christian behavior.
Ephesians 5:15-33 Husbands and Wives -  A horrifying lesson which actually suggests the Bible means what it says about marriage.
Ephesians 6:1-4 True Riches -  Relationships between fathers and children.
Ephesians 6:5-9 Slaves and Masters -  Relationship of slaves and masters, employees and employers.
Ephesians 6:10-24 Armor of God - Putting on the whole armor of God.

These lessons were originally delivered in 1998.
